Jul 20, 2016

NEW YORK, NY (July 20, 2016) — Spring Studios and Time Inc.’s (TIME:NYSE) LIFE Photo Archives have announced that the fashion exhibition at The Gallery@Spring, featuring more than 50 exceptional fashion photographs from the LIFE Photo Archives from the 1940’s to 1970’s, is free and open to the public on July 22-24 and July 29-31 from 10a.m. to 6p.m. The exhibition will provide a unique and rare perspective into the history of fashion in the city. Spring Studios is located at 50 Varick Street in TriBeCa, New York City.

The exhibition features work from three of the four original LIFE photographers—Margaret Bourke-White, Alfred Eisenstaedt and Peter Stackpole—as well as other seminal photographers such as Yale Joel, Nina Leen and Gordon Parks. The photographs feature iconic fashion as well as fashion icons Audrey Hepburn, Eartha Kitt, Jessica Tandy, Marlon Brando, Gloria Morgan Vanderbilt and Marilyn Monroe. This collection includes one of LIFE’s most famous images: Eisenstaedt’s “V.J. Day.”

“This year marks the 80th anniversary of LIFE and we’re delighted to share a glimpse of our archives with Spring Studios. To see the fashion photography of Gordon Parks, Nina Leen and Gjon Mili among many others presented together at this scale is unprecedented,” said Jill Golden, manager of the LIFE Photo Archives.

The show is curated by Eleonora Flammini and Javier Sirvent at SilverLake Photography. Many of the images have been produced from the original negatives and are as large as 90”x70”. All printing has been provided by Duggal Visual Solutions. Selected images from the show are also available for editorial licensing via Getty Images.

Twenty-eight prints will be auctioned online to benefit Art Start, a NYC-based charitable organization connecting at-risk youth to art and artists in order to nurture youth talent. Click here to participate in the auction that takes place from June 16 to August 23.
