Time Inc.’s Sports Illustrated Group Launches Campus Rush – A New Vertical Dedicated to the People, Personalities and Culture of College Football
Aug 25, 2015
New York, NY (August 25, 2015) – Today, Time Inc.’s Sports Illustrated Group introduces Campus Rush (CampusRush.com), a new vertical devoted to the passion, culture and lifestyle of college football. The launch of Campus Rush comes on the heels of Time Inc.’s recent acquisitions of the FanSided network of 300+ websites and the three companies that form the nucleus of a new division, SI Play, which is devoted to youth sports.
Campus Rush will complement Sports Illustrated’s breaking news, analysis and feature reporting from a deep and talented team of writers, including Pete Thamel and Andy Staples, with lifestyle coverage of the unique stories that surround the game. Some of what you’ll see on Campus Rush include: Recommendations on the best places to eat around SEC and ACC campuses (produced in partnership with Southern Living); “Campus Cribs”, an inside look at the players’ dorm rooms and apartments; “Campus Clicks”, a daily read featuring the viral and celebrity content coming from the schools; and “Tailgate Test Kitchen,” a video series where Staples tests the best tailgate recipes as submitted via Twitter. Campus Rush will also present a game day social wall that will organize tweets, photos, video and digital interaction from tailgates and stadiums around the country.
Adding a unique voice to the destination will be 66 student journalists reporting from every school in the Power Five conferences as well as BYU and Notre Dame. Sports Illustrated worked with journalism departments and student newspapers across the country to identify these correspondents who, beginning today, the group will deliver a series of daily dispatches offering an inside look at the buzz around their school. See the latest reports from the campus correspondents here.
”It’s no secret that the appetite for college football, especially in the era of the playoffs, has never been stronger,” said Sports Illustrated Group Editor Paul Fichtenbaum. “We’re excited to build on Sports Illustrated’s tradition of covering the sport with Campus Rush and its focus on the culture and lifestyle. The new site will provide a more visual and interactive platform and represents an exciting new coverage model that incorporates student journalists from around the nation. The new vertical will bring to life the campus experience and amplify the voice of the fans and people who make college football a cherished pastime.”
Campus Rush will also be the home of Sports Illustrated’s 2015 College Football Tailgate Tour, presented by Go RVing, as it visits some of the biggest games of the season, including stops at Michigan State, Oregon, Texas A&M, Auburn and Mississippi State. Both Finish Line and Go RVing are launch sponsors of the site.
