Real Simple Challenges Women to Get Real on Instagram

New York, NY – January 28, 2015 – To kick off the New Year, lifestyle brand Real Simple has launched a campaign called Women in Real Life. The focus of the initiative is to highlight women’s unfiltered, messy and often hilarious life moments on social media.

 

The brand has created an instagram account @WomenIRL and a corresponding hashtag #WomenIRL, as an alternative to the images often seen in social feeds, and is encouraging followers to share real life moments that reinforce this idea.

 

The social campaign will lead up to the brands first ever appearance at SXSW this spring. RealSimple.com Editor, Lori Leibovich, will moderate the panel, “Unfiltered: Do Women Need to Get Real on Instragram” and will be joined in the discussion by actress Busy Philipps, Stacy London, stylist and host of “Love, Lust or Run” on TLC and writer Ashley Ford of Buzzfeed.

 

“It’s an attempt to keep us honest in a world where social feeds are often just a constant stream of expertly filtered images,” said Leibovich. “We see this as a unique opportunity to keep us all in check and to reveal our real lives–the mediocre meals, the whiny children, the lined faces, all of it.”

 

The panel will explore how women can use Instagram to better highlight our real lives and take the narrative away from the perfection often displayed in women’s media.

 

Real Simple is spreading the word across the brands own social channels and is featuring fans submissions on @WomenIRL and @Real_Simple. Since its January 2 launch, @WomenIRL has amassed over 35,000 followers, and the hashtag #WomenIRL has been used over 5,000 times.
