Diane Harris Named Editor of Money

Feb 3, 2015

NEW YORK, February 3, 2015 – Diane Harris has been named editor of Money, it was announced today by Evelyn Webster, Executive Vice President, Time Inc. (NYSE:TIME).

Harris will be the eighth editor of Money since the magazine was established in 1972. She will oversee the world’s leading personal finance publication, with more than 7 million readers in print, online, mobile and social media. Harris succeeds Craig Matters, who is leaving Time Inc. to pursue a second career in education. She will report to Webster with a dotted line to Norman Pearlstine, Chief Content Officer, Time Inc. Her appointment is effective immediately.

“I am delighted to have in Diane Harris a strong leader who we are able to elevate seamlessly into the top job,” Webster said. “I am confident she will prove to be a strong successor to Craig.”

Harris was previously the Executive Editor of Money. She first joined the brand in 1983 as a writer. Later, she worked as an editor at Working Woman and as a freelance writer, with monthly columns in Parenting and AARP magazine. She rejoined the magazine in 2004 as Assistant Managing Editor. In her two stints at the title, she has won a National Magazine Award for her coverage of the 1987 stock market crash, edited several award-winning series and features, and worked entrepreneurially to develop extensions for the brand. In the past year, Money launched a new website that already reaches more than four million unique visitors a month and created a groundbreaking college ranking franchise, a project Harris led. She is the co-author of a personal finance book for women, with Georgette Mosbacher, called “It Takes Money, Honey,” based on a feature that Harris originally wrote for Money. Harris is the first woman to hold the job of Editor at Money. With this change, Ellen Stark, currently a Money Senior Editor-at-Large, replaces Harris as Executive Editor.

During Matters’ six-year tenure at Money, the magazine earned numerous accolades including a 2012 Gerald Loeb Award, the highest honor in business journalism. Matters has held a series of senior leadership positions during his 17 years at Time Inc., including as the founding editor of CNNMoney.com and as an executive editor at Fortune.
