Dec 17, 2014

NEW YORK, December 16, 2014 – Southern Living Editor in Chief Sid Evans announced today the appointment of Katy McColl to Senior Executive Editor and the promotion of Whitney Wright to the newly-created position of General Manager. McColl, an editorial consultant and contributing editor to various magazine brands, and Wright, most recently Southern Living’s Deputy Food Director, report to Evans. McColl will begin her new job after she relocates to Birmingham in mid-January; Wright’s promotion is effective immediately.

Evans commented: “Katy is an award-winning editor, author, and storyteller who really understands great service journalism, regardless of the platform. She’s also a native Texan with a passion for all things Southern and a great sense of style. I’m also thrilled to promote Whitney, whose ingenuity and talent, particularly in the digital and video realms, has helped position Southern Living as a truly innovative media brand. Whitney and Katy will continue to elevate Southern Living’s award-winning product as we approach our milestone 50th anniversary next year.”

McColl replaces Hunter Lewis, who became Editor of Southern Living’s sister brand Cooking Light in September. Previously, she was Executive Editor of Country Living and earlier held the same title at O at Home. McColl is author of the forthcoming American Style and has penned four other books, including The Little Book of Big Decorating Ideas and Deck the Halls: Fun and Festive Christmas Projects. McColl was born and raised in Dallas, TX.

Wright worked in the culinary, editorial, and digital spaces before she joined Southern Living in 2013. Wright was Senior Editor of Gilt Groupe and was Chef de Partie at renowned Chef Thomas Keller’s Per Se restaurant in New York. Earlier in her career, she worked at the Beacon Group and Navigant Consulting.
