Travel + Leisure Announces Three Editorial Appointments

New Creative Director, Features Director, and Style Director Join T+L Masthead

NEW YORK, November 13, 2014 – Travel + Leisure Editor Nathan Lump announces that Gretchen Smelter is named the brand’s Creative Director, effective November 20; Jesse Ashlock is appointed Features Director, effective November 17; and Jane Bishop is named Style Director, effective November 17.

Smelter was most recently at Rodale’s Women’s Health where she was Creative Director. Prior to joining Rodale, she was the Design Director at House Beautiful and before that Group Creative Director of Edipresse Asia where she worked on a number of publications including Hong Kong Tatler. She has also served as Creative Director at Conde Nast’s Brides and Art Director for Time Inc.’s Real Simple as well as Smart Money, among other roles.

 

Ashlock was most recently Online Director of T: The New York Times Style Magazine, where he oversaw all the magazine’s digital content. Prior to that, he was the Deputy Editor of Details, the Editor-in-Chief of I.D. magazine and the Editor of V Man, among other senior editorial positions. He has also written for The New York Times Magazine, Fast Company, BusinessWeek, Interview, and more.

 

Bishop is the Creative Director of Jean Stories, a website about denim which she co-founded in 2013, and has been a freelance writer covering fashion, beauty, and lifestyle for Vogue, Vogue.com, Lucky, and Glamour. Before launching Jean Stories, Bishop served as Online Editor at T: The New York Times Style Magazine. She was Director of Concept from 2010 to 2011 for Gap Inc, and a Fashion Writer for Vogue from 2005 to 2009. Bishop will continue in her role at Jean Stories while at Travel + Leisure.
