Time Inc. Appoints Mark Ellis Senior Vice President Corporate Sales

Former Yahoo! and AOL Executive to Lead Integrated Sales Strategy

NEW YORK, August 4, 2014 – Time Inc. today named Mark Ellis Senior Vice President Corporate Sales. In this newly-created role, Ellis will be responsible for developing and implementing an integrated sales strategy across the Time Inc. portfolio. He will also lead the company’s corporate and digital sales teams and work to generate big, tentpole programs for advertisers and agencies. He will report to Mark Ford, Executive Vice President of Global Advertising Sales, and join the company on August 25th.

With more than 20 years of experience in sales, marketing and digital media, Ellis has held senior executive roles leading digital companies, including AOL and Yahoo! Most recently, he spent three years at Yahoo! where he served as Vice President North American Sales. He managed a team of 150 and led the branded display, search, performance, native, video, content marketing and mobile sales efforts. He had a particular focus on growing share from Fortune 500 Companies and was responsible for almost $3 billion in revenue. His role also encompassed digital strategy including revenue models, new ad formats, policy decisions and technology partnerships.

Prior to Yahoo!, Ellis was Executive Vice President North American Sales at AOL for seven years where he managed a team of 400 and oversaw national sales, mid-market sales, account management, strategy and sales operations. He earlier ran AOL’s sales regions in Detroit, Chicago and Dallas.

Previously, Ellis was Vice President of sports marketing firm IMG, where he ran sales for the company’s digital division. Earlier, he was Vice President of Sales for internet startup Quokka Sports. In addition to building and managing the company’s sales and marketing teams, he created the revenue model and helped build the revenue infrastructure.

He also worked for several years at Time Inc. (1991 – 1999) where he held a variety of executive positions, including Publisher of Time Inc. New Media and Publishing Director for Sports Illustrated. He began his career in Detroit working on automotive business for advertising agency Kenyon & Eckhart.

Ellis serves on the board of the Advertising Club of New York, the Interactive Advertising Bureau’s (IAB) Media Measurement Advisory board and advises digital startups that are part of the Detroit Venture Partnership. He was also co-founder and treasurer of 313 Digital, an organization championing the development of digital marketing in the Metro Detroit Area. He is a former board member of the IAB and the Adcraft Club of Detroit, and a former member of the AAF Hall of Achievement judging panel. He serves on the Board of Advisors for the University of Detroit Mercy, College of Business Administration.

A Detroit native, Ellis holds a B.S. from the University of Notre Dame and an M.B.A. from the University of Detroit.
