Time Inc. Names Winners of 2016 Henry R. Luce Awards

Time Is Title of The Year; Essence Wins Best Public Service And People/Entertainment Weekly Network (PEN) Is Best Brand Extension

(NEW YORK, NY, APRIL 27, 2017)—Time Inc. announced the winners of its prestigious annual Luce Awards during a ceremony yesterday afternoon at Time Inc.’s headquarters at 225 Liberty Street. Named for Time Inc.’s founder, Henry R. Luce, the 19th annual awards span 17 multi-platform categories and honor the extraordinary content created across the Time Inc. portfolio during 2016.

Some of the winners include Time for Title of the Year; People/Entertainment Weekly Network (PEN) for Best Brand Extension; Fortune and People for Best Reporting; Real Simple’s “Frosé” for Best Social Video; Travel + Leisure for Magazine Design; and Extra Crispy for Best Digital Design.

Norman Pearlstine, Vice Chairman, was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his significant contributions to the company and to journalism overall.

Time Inc. President and CEO Rich Battista said, “Our Luce Award winners reinforce the DNA of who we are and what we do best: produce the most powerful, trusted storytelling across multiple platforms and formats. We also extend special congratulations to Norm Pearlstine, who has helped shape and evolve journalism throughout his accomplished career."

The winners were chosen by five panelists: Paul Fichtenbaum, Paul Steiger, Dick Stolley, Tom Weber and Callie Schweitzer.

“Our talented winners are a testament to our continuing ability to produce powerful journalism, gripping photography, amazing live events, engaging social video, ahead-of-the-curve virtual reality experiences, and compelling long-form video and to lead the way in using technology to deliver content,” noted Time Inc. Chief Content Officer Alan Murray, who oversaw the competition. "I congratulate everyone who has been involved in bringing this extraordinary content to life.”
