2006 FOOD TOUR: FLAVORS OF THE HEARTLAND -- Page 91 & 135
Midwest Living Editor-in-Chief Dan Kaercher ate his way across 8,207 miles and the 12 Midwest states last summer to produce the upcoming Taste of the Midwest book and a public television series. In an excerpt from the book, Dan chronicles his lakeside meal at a vintage cabin resort northwest of Ely, Minn., which offers a first-rate meal alongside the most spectacular sunset over the island-dotted lake. Also in this issue, Dan’s Taste of Chicago picks – a tour of the city’s ethnic neighborhoods – including the perfect pizza pie, soul food from the southside and an exploration of Polish comfort food. Stay tuned for more Taste of the Midwest excerpts in Midwest Living and look for the book on shelves in June.

CAMPING -- ROUGHING IT IN STYLE -- Page 19
One-third of Americans have camped at least once in the last five years, but with Midwest Living’s ideas for making the trip more like an episode of “Friends”, rather than “Survivor”, even more of us are likely to head out this summer. To add luxury to your tent life consider adding these items to your backpack: Remote Control Tent Light, Camp Water Heater, Tent Fan, Portable Oven, Espresso Maker and a Travel Bar.

SUMMER RULES TO PLAY BY -- Page 35
Midwest Living shares tips from one Indiana lakeside family for ‘must follow summer rules’ to make this season memorable and reminiscent of unstructured summer camp life. Rules to play by: Eat Only Outside, Connect with Water, and Focus on Family Time.

Midwest Living offers updates to your charbroiled options – Citrus Pesto Tuna, Bacon-Wrapped Ribeyes, Pineapple with Watermelon Salsa, Grilled Applewood Smoked Pork Chops, Barbeque Meatloaf, Grilled Green Tomatoes and more.

THE WORLDS OF ERIE -- Page 115

Take a taste of all three in a single trip with Midwest Living’s trip suggestions. Enjoy nature with a bird watching trip or wade in the warmest of the Great Lakes, explore the history by hiking to the top of the oldest lighthouse on the Lakes or find some fun for the whole family at one of the region’s top amusement parks.
